Luminescent’s CEO Doron Tamir Explains Revolutionary Waste Heat Engine Technology
Israeli startup Luminescent is developing an isothermal heat engine that can turn otherwise wasted heat into zero-emission electricity. The company, funded by leading VC Grove Ventures, claims its engine is twice as efficient and half the cost of standard heat engines. Unlike other heat engines that use an adiabatic process, Luminescent’s liquid-based process directly uses waste heat to spin turbines and generate electricity. If widely adopted, Luminescent’s technology could help generate significant amounts of zero-emission electricity and reduce carbon emissions. The company plans to pilot its heat engine with customers in the oil refinery and chemical factory sectors in 2024.
